Observatory

The observatory is privately owned and is located about 7 km from Havlíčkův Brod. The sky here is relatively dark. The exception is the southern and southwestern horizons, where the presence of a district town and several newly (inappropriately) lit villages is noticeable.

The rotating dome of the observation tower is formed by an octahedron with a curved top. The inspiration for this solution was some observatories in the US and mainly the VLT Observatory. According to available studies, this arrangement has an advantage over conventional domes by better managing the flow of air inside the dome.

In my experience, this dome shape is especially simpler by design. The skeleton is made of welded jäkle profiles complete with wood and covered with galvanized tin. The interior is lined with Styrofoam for insulation. The diameter of the rail on which the dome, mounted on eight bearings, rotates is 3 m.
